An hour and half drive through beautiful Tuscan vineyards and olive groves from Piombino Port finds you in Volterra.

The Weather Chanel app predicted a light rain… we were so lucky that the rain passed before we arrived around 10:00 am.

Although cloudy, we enjoyed beautiful vistas .

Strolling through this postcard pretty hill town was a real treat. We’ve visited Tuscany several times, most recently in October 2017, but had never made it here. I’m not sure if the weather contributed to the lack of tourists or if it’s the time of year, but the streets were empty save for Crystal visitors.

Here’s Timmy in the city gate.

During WW II the Nazi’s agreed not to blow up the gate as they were retreating… if and only if the towns’ people could manage to dam it up. Here are photos showing them successfully damming the gate with stones, brick and sandbags.

This is as close as we could get to the Roman Theater. It was spectacular, as were the views.

We barely touched the surface in the two hours we had here on our Crystal shore excursion.

I love when I come upon local folks just chilling.
