Travel in the time of Covid.

Whenever I refer to “last year” I am usually thinking of 2019. Is it because my mind wants to erase 2020? Or because we had so little social interaction? Some other reason? We were dining in Prego last evening with friends we met in 2019 on Crystal Serenity and I continuously said “last year on Serenity this” and “last year on Serenity that” as we reminisced about all the fun we had. It was unsettling to realize that voyage was almost two years ago. But that was then and this is now and here we are sailing again, back on Symphony…just so grateful to be sailing again.
We left the cats at 10:00 a.m. and arrived at the Manhattan cruise terminal at 12:05. Our driver’s Garmin (really … Garmin?) took us through the tunnel straight across mid-town…on a Friday, with the United Nations in session. Seriously, you are a professional driver and you are using a Garmin? Whatever. Arriving we dropped our luggage and were escorted up to testing and check in. Two very sweet and efficient young women did the rapid nasal tests and we were ushered to a waiting area. Within 15 minutes we received our “valid” results via text and 15 minutes after that we were on the ship …champagne in hand.

This is Lewis…he assisted in loading the DocGo app and explaining the process
Shara took the nasal swabs…five times around each nostril (just in case you are wondering)
Timmy filling out a brief health questionnaire
Yay! We are valid…so much nicer than “negative”
Here we are with Arlene and Gil just as we boarded…I was so excited I almost forgot a photo…thanks to Arlene, who remembered, we asked our escort to take a quick snap…yes lots and lots of escorts 😀
Just when I noted that we hadn’t seen the Crystal greeter in top hat we rounded a corner and there he was!
Here’s our butler, Olena showing Timmy how to use the coffee maker
We had taken a photo on the pool deck with the NYC skyline behind us on our two previous Crystal cruises out of NY…so now I guess it’s a tradition
Timmy took this photo of the Intrepid
Waiting for sail away … it was windy…but not quite “sporty”
The setting sun reflecting on the skyline was magical
We dined in Prego…celebrating Gil’s birthday
We had a wonderful evening, including reminiscing about “last year”
