Tim was up and out on the veranda early on our 5th day aboard Endeavor.

That’s Grimsey Island and the Arctic Circle in front of Timmy. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d ever have the opportunity to cross the Arctic Circle. But we did. Not once, but according to Captain Larson, we actually sailed across the Arctic Circle four times on this voyage.

It’s as if they had a “Church” mold and just brought it from settlement to settlement
Really wish Boris had taken a bit more time with his signature…whatever

We had the opportunity to tender over to Grimsey and participate in a hike over rough, rocky terrain. It was to be a four mile group hike, so we demurred and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, then wandered up to the Palm Court and spent the later part of the morning chatting with new friends. Shortly after lunch we set sail for Husavik.

About twenty of us set out from the dock on what was described as a “stroll through Husavik with a visit to a quaint garden”. You know how sometimes you just know when something is a bad idea? But you proceed anyway? Even after you say to your sweetheart “this probably isn’t going to work” and he says “I’m fine, let’s go”. And you say “no really, let’s turn back” and he says “will you stop? I’m fine”. I’m here to say I knew it was a bad idea and yes…”I told him so”. Here’s why: the walk from the dock to the entrance of the town was at least a mile. Uphill. Probably not much of a challenge for most folks. But please remember that we’d done a fair bit of walking the day before on the glorious chocolate and beer tasting tour. And the ligaments in Tim’s right ankle have been in bad shape since 2017. Anyway we were falling behind the group and had barely entered the town, so I parked Timmy on a bench and continued with the group…snapping photos along the way. Eventually I ditched the walking tour, fetched Timmy and we headed back to Endeavor.

I get that Icelandic people put elves in their gardens…no information regarding these ornaments

Husavik is an adorable town and the guide was lovely, however this experience concretized to my mind that we are always, always better served when we engage private guides and can tour at our own pace. Having said that, this Icelandic adventure did not lend itself to private tours and for the most part, the ship’s excursions were tons of fun…with the added bonus of spending quality time with fellow passengers.

Back onboard we headed straight to our cabin and raided the fridge. After a nap, a visit to Erica was on the agenda. (A fellow passenger noted that after this cruise, he might need a detox …us too.)

I think he choose this libation because it matches his shirt.

Among the many joys of traveling…connecting with absolutely delightful folks. We met Joanne and Scott early on in the voyage and enjoyed their company tremendously. Here we are in Umi Uma.

That’s Martin and Sheila with Scott and Tim

As often happens when I’m engaged in wonderful conversation, I failed to take more photos that evening. We had a really super time learning more about Joanne and Scott and their travels.
