October 4,2025 Lisbon Portugal

We woke to another beautiful day, enjoyed a lazy late breakfast then set off for the Doca de Belem. When we visited Lisbon in 2022 we took a wonderful sunset sail along the Tagus River aboard a sailboat operated by PalmaYachts. We loved the experience so much we decided to spend the afternoon once again sailing the river. As Timmy says “we leave a big boat to sail a small boat”.

This is the view we woke to. #iloveportsidecabins

We arrived early because there is usually a lively vibe near the Monument to the Discoveries statue. We were not disappointed. As we were attempting a selfie, a very nice man offered to take this photo.

Timmy struck up a conversation and I wandered off…doing what I love…snapping pics.

The monument celebrates Portugal’s Age of Discovery and honors Henry the Navigator. It has 33 statues along the sides, including Henry. The statues include explorers, kings, poets and mapmakers.

.

Tim found a bench and a new friend.

Lots of cool vendors.

.

When we arrived we set out to find Gate 1…our meeting place …we vaguely remembered that the last time we sailed from the Belem dock, the meeting spot was right next to the monument. Well the numbers all said #5 …so we were confused….

…until someone shut the gate…okay! Now we can relax and soak in the happy vibe…

One can never have too many photos of sailboats.

So here’s an example of Tim’s genius use of the App “TouchRetouch”…I took this photo and hated the cars in it…

…thirty seconds later…cars gone😊

Timmy with Benny and Miguel as we boarded their sailboat.

.

These two! Their love of being on the water is infectious…we bonded with them immediately.

Spending the afternoon with Benny and Miguel was an absolute joy.

Too close Timmy!!!! Why do some selfies make me look like a frog?

As we began our sail, Benny told us about the monument, the Tower of Belem and other interesting sights along the way.

.

The sail was perfick in every way…beautiful weather…wonderful company.

.

Oh and vino too. A lovely crisp Alvarinho.

.
.

When you sail under the bridge, the cars make a humming sound…like a million bees.

Christ the King statue, inspired by Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.

.

I love, love these big red machines…container cranes…they probably have a fancy technical name…anyway…I took these exact same pics in 2022.

.
.

Took these photos for Claire, who spent the summer giving sailing lessons and racing her Opti.

When I say the day was perfick….

.
.

So yesterday we were on deck 12 as we sailed in…today, a slightly different perspective.

.

Miguel and my Navy guy talking shop.

.

When we said we were off a cruise ship, Miguel took us up close as we passed by Symphony.

.

Benny and Miguel went the absolute last extra mile to ensure that we had a super time. They are the best team ever…kind, funny, engaging…we loved them♥️

.

Back to the terminal…

.

We cleaned up, took a mirror selfie and headed off to Umi Uma.

Here’s Edwin…a beloved Symphony sommelier with a Sparkling Sake…yes! Sparkling Sake. Really delicious. We loved it.

We are so fancy with our own chopsticks 🩵

Sashimi for the win.

.

Soft shell crab spring roll

Nobu’s Tuna salad…my new favorite.

Monkfish liver pate’

So Edwin snapped this photo for us…please look over Timmy’s right shoulder…can you see the woman who totally photo bombed us…with the most sour expression? No, no you can’t…because Timmy edited her and her husband out. Thank goodness, because it’s the only photo of the two of us enjoying that wonderful meal.

Hot Udan Noodles and shrimp tempura …so yummy

In my opinion…the only way to end dinner at Umi…

.

Timmy had another idea…the chocolate soufflé cake with sesame ice cream.

Anyway…a perfick end to a perfick day. Thanks for following along 🩵
