Visiting Peru and especially Machu Picchu, has been a long held dream. I feared that we’d waited too long, that we were too old and the altitude in the Andes would be insurmountable.

We happily discovered that no, we’re not too old and if you take the time to acclimate, the altitude is not a problem. In conjunction with a wonderful tour company,  Belmond Journeys in Peru, we planned a 10 day itinerary to Peru.

Days 1-3 were spent in Lima at the Belmond Miraflores Park. We arrived on a red-eye flight at 7:00 a.m. Our room wouldn’t be available until 11:00 a.m. so we set out exploring. The Miraflores is a district of the Lima Province in Peru. It is a residential and upscale shopping district south of downtown Lima. It is also one of the most affluent districts that make up the city of Lima. It has various hotels (including the Hilton, the JW Marriott, and the Belmond), restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and department stores. Miraflores is one of the main tourist attractions in Lima.

Upon returning to our room we ordered room service lunch and took a nap. That evening we enjoyed a lovey dinner at la Rosa Nautica.
