Malaga is a repeat port on this voyage, so we decided to hire a driver and visit Bentomiz Winery…a vineyard about an hour from the city.

We had coffee on our balcony and watched the busy port activity for a while.

.
.

Our driver, Jesus, met us as we exited the port and we set off…

.

We spent about twenty minutes on a highway, then the real fun began…

We climbed, and climbed (on narrow winding roads) through several adorable hilltop towns.

.
.

Can you see the switchbacks?

.

Still climbing…beautiful vistas …

.
.
.

Once the road changed, I knew we were close…very narrow, very steep.

.

You really can’t tell…but we were vertigo inducingly close to the edge of the mountain.

.

I really wanted to move away from that spot…but Timmy always indulges me …so I gave him a semi-smile

.

That’s Rena our host talking about the history of the Vineyard and it’s 100+ year old vines.

.
.
.

After the vines, we visited the steel tanks.

.
.

On to the restaurant for our tasting.

.
.

Julia and Timmy discuss …

.

After we tasted four lovely wines, we explored the the property and relaxed on the patio…

The sous chef gathering herbs for lunch.

.

This is a limequat tree.

.

We enjoyed the sunshine as we waited for lunch…and oh what a lunch♥️

We choose a crisp Rose’ …

Oysters and hummus on a cracker.

We were seated next to this herb…which made an appearance atop the hummus

.

Yummy bread with a local Spanish olive oil.

We invited Jesus to join us…he was a most delightful lunch companion.

Cold almond and garlic soup with melon.

A few drops of olive oil.

.

No words…if you know Tim, you know.

Crawfish carpaccio with eel and fried capers and a gooseberry.

A Japanese influenced Red Tuna “burger” with ginger and jicama.

Oxtail spring roll and roasted vegetables.

So, so yummy.

Pears seeped in red wine, date ice cream with an almond crust.

Truly an amazing meal.

Winery owner and chef…Andre Both.

Chef was so gracious.

Rena and Julia are a wonderful team.

One last stroll…

.
.

So yes, that’s the road back to Malaga.

.
.
.

Back in port, we said our goodbyes…Jesus is a great driver (handled those hilltop roads like a pro 😉) and a super person…we loved spending the day with him.

Once on board … we napped …then we chilled on our balcony for the entire evening…no additional calories required.

Some days are just so amazing, you don’t want them to end. This was certainly one of those special ones. Thanks for following along 🩵
