July 13, 2026 Sonora Resort

I stepped out on the deck to catch the sunrise and one of the boats was just setting out.
I fell back to sleep until 7:45 and then snapped this pic:

On the way to breakfast

Yogurt, berries, pineapple juice, those amazing potatoes that I remember and a delicious pastry…oh and this view.

Some pics from the main Lodge: Tyee.

That’s the “cabin” next to ours…I snapped the second pic as I set out on a hike.
I crossed this little Brook…
.

I hiked for a very long time…like a really long time. And two things happened on the hike…about an hour in. I got a notice from my phone that I had 9% of my battery left…I sent Tim a text, because I didn’t want him to worry. I’m so mad because my Pacer App died when the phone did…and I lost credit for all those steps.

The other thing that happened on my almost 3 hour hike? I realized just how much my fitness has deteriorated in the past two years. When I came to the Blue Trail and looked up into the forest…I couldn’t even imagine taking that route again.

Because my phone was inoperable, I had no clue how long I’d have to walk to get back to Tim…I just put my head down, one foot in front of the other…took a wrong path (only once) and eventually saw our cabin up ahead…Tim was watching eagles and seals from our deck…I took off my shoes and joined him. Being old really isn’t for sissies…and I freaking hate it…but it is what it is and trust me, I know how lucky I am to have this life with Timmy, I just wish I had more stamina.

Around 4 pm we walked over to Tyee …on the way we met Caitlin, from Scotland…she’s the Dock Master. We had a nice chat. Caitlin is very, very sweet.

Then we enjoyed another one of Quinn’s Fungi pizzas. So yummy. Several eagles flew over head while we enjoyed the views and kept a look out for Dolphins, at breakfast Chelsea had shared with us a video of a recent encounter. I hope we get as lucky.

We also watched a fishing boat return…that’s Chef Jin conferring with the folks who caught the fish…they are so lucky if Chef is going to prepare their salmon for dinner. We also saw Celsey greeting guests who were arriving by boat.

On our way back to our place we stopped into the Snack Shack and might have grabbed a shortbread cookie or two.

Timmy continued his eagle vigil and I watched him from the soaking tub. The bath bomb smelled amazing, created quite a few bubbles and I cannot express what it’s like to have this view. From a bath…of all places.

.

Our walk before dinner…it’s just four minutes along the dock…then Tim ordered a Storm’s Wake…it was yummy…might be my choice tomorrow evening.
When we sat down for dinner Jenna said…no menus for you…Chef has something special planned. Then she came back and said “I think we need to move you to a larger table”…oh my.

Chef Jin came out with pastry chef extraordinaire Chef Maxine. You know…the creator of last nights Strawberry Pavlova…the Pavlova like no other… in the history of Pavlovas.
Since our dinner is to be a surprise, I asked chef which wine I should choose…he suggested I begin with white then switch to red. Okay, now I’m really getting excited.

This amuse!…oh my goodness…Tuna wrapped in sturgeon leaf with ponzu sauce and fish eggs…so much flavor in such a tiny package

I’m only including this photo because it shows how happy I am. And for some reason, Timmy insists on taking pics of me…😍

Milk bread with lemon butter and edible flowers…and oh my goodness! Those oysters…so fresh, so sweet…I really wish I’d taken some writing classes instead of all those math, accounting and finance classes…because I do not have the vocabulary to describe the wonderful meal that Chef Jin created for us.

When this platter was presented to us…we both gasped…no lie…
Two Rivers 21-day Dry Aged Tomahawk with Braised veal cheeks, bone marrow, pomme beignets, seasonal vegetables, mushrooms and red wine jus. And oh my goodness…those truffles announced themselves from a distance.

It takes extraordinary talent to create a meal this memorable, and Chef Jin does so with remarkable grace and humility…it’s the humility that gets us. He’s a freaking super star♥️

So delicious, beyond succulent …as Timmy said halfway through “outstanding!”

We enjoyed this meal to no end…taking our time, savoring every bite…

IYKYK

And the grand finale…this luscious souffle with hazelnut ice cream. Kudos to Chef Maxine.
And one more special surprise …Chef invited us into his kitchen …what a treat to meet his team…so much talent in one kitchen. Just wow.

We checked out tomorrow’s activities as we left the dining room

Our walk back was perfick…we spotted this guy right in front of our cabin.

Such a perfick dinner and now this balmy evening…we stayed on deck for quite a while…it’s great that we have this twilight that lasts for hours. Timmy cannot tear himself away from a chubby seal…or maybe it’s a sea lion…hanging out near the rocks.

Okay so finally we are calling an end to this beyond magical day…thank you so much to Chef Jin and his entire team. And to the wonderful dining staff who took such great care of us.
Thanks for following along…we are really tired tonight. ♥️♥️♥️
