July 5, Icy Straight Point Alaska

After coffee in our room and breakfast in Trident, we headed off on a ship’s excursion “Whale Quest and Seafood Feast”.

We boarded our warm comfortable boat, took the obligatory selfie and spent about 20 minutes sailing towards an area in IcyPoint Straight where humpbacks are known to feed after migrating from Hawaii and Mexico.

Our view as we sailed away from the dock.

Yes! Whales…so many whales♥️♥️♥️ I took many (many!) videos of whales spouting, surfacing and diving…here’s one…it starts slowly…but there is a pay off at the end.
This was a great experience, I think we spent 1.5 hours with the whales…time passed very quickly…it was cold…not freezing on the top deck but so worth it and I had many layers on …including fleece lined tights from LL Bean…I love these tights…beyond warm.

Back at the dock we said goodbye to this lovely Mother and Son…Angie and Aaron…Angie was our Naturalist and Aaron our deck hand…both so knowledgeable with great “whale tails”…we really enjoyed them.

More kayakers…such a brave, hearty bunch…at least the waters near the port seemed calm…in fact I said to Timmy “I’d try kayaking again if we could do it in calm waters like this”…he didn’t even respond…just gave me his Timmy look. But, here’s the thing…I am not a quitter…and I really feel that given the right conditions we could master kayaking …well maybe master isn’t the correct word…but maybe… probably? we could manage an outing with out overturning the thing. Anyway it does bother me.

Adorable cottages with a stunning view.

.

Lunch was included with our excursion…it included Dungeness crab, shrimp, mussels, corn, potatoes and yummy sausage. Really tasty. And our view was perfick…there was also a tent with heaters…but we didn’t need them…it was actually quite pleasant. I grabbed a wine in a carton…what was I thinking? Timmy enjoyed his beer and the water was fine.

So maybe a tad too enthusiastic about crab…

Timmy is quite the expert in extracting every last bit of crabmeat.

I roasted a few marshmallows at the fire and then we walked back to the ship past the tram.

Back on board we visited Beate and booked a Grand Journey for Autumn 2027 😍

My Ahi tuna was perfick …and Cioppino…because I didn’t have enough seafood at lunch…
Timmy chose consommé and pasta.

Head waiter Adem brought us cheese..Timmy tried Epoisses and I kept it basic with Manchego.
Then we demolished our raspberry frozen yogurt and headed off to the show in the Galaxy Lounge.

Comedian Mike Delamont was back…this guy is really funny…then Vicky finished off a fun evening with a few quips about Alaska and the very lonely shipboard personal trainer.
All in all a perfick day…especially the part where we booked an additional 72 days for 2027. Thanks for following along. 🩵🩵🩵
